MEDICINAL PLANTS

The Birthwort is an herb belonging to the family of aristoloquiáceas, comprising about 400 species. Are known to produce important substances from the medical point of view, although there is still a lack of knowledge about this family. This does not put turnips aristolochia underground, but produces a thin and branched strain, from which spring many offspring rather long, broad leaves and sustained for a very long corner. One grows in vineyards and untilled land of sandy soil and deep, is distributed throughout Central Europe, Asia Minor and the Caucasus. In the peninsula, we find all over Catalonia.

FLOWERING

Flowers during spring and summer, although sometimes a second flowering occurs in winter. Plant primarily interested in the root, although the seeds and stems are also active substances.

APPLICATIONS

The active aristolochia root is a potent poison of the capillaries. Although parenterally administered intoxication produces very similar to that of colchicine: we are talking of aristolochic acid. Popularly, this herb has been used to treat certain infectious diseases and homeopathy are also used to treat cold damage, acne, menstrual discomfort, eczema and circulatory system disorders. A useful clarification of what is homeopathy and why this science can be used toxic substances: homeopathy is a science that involves treating illnesses with the same substances that cause the disease, only very dilute doses; so that to treat a stomach ache with a homeopathic remedy will have to use something that produces normal doses bellyache. This "something" is diluted a hundred times and stirred constantly at each dilution, so homeopathic medicines are manufactured. Thus, no side effects because they contain virtually no active ingredients, but, as homeopaths, cure and heal any disease. With the plant before us prepare some homeopathic remedies, it seems, remedy and heal various ailments. And it is recommended not to use this plant in capricious ways. In fact, aristolochic acid is strictly prohibited by the health authorities, as some studies have shown that carcinogenic effects. As noted in the introduction, all birthworts with medicinal properties are unwieldy and poorly studied. It is therefore better to wait for progress in their knowledge and meanwhile make use in specialist hands.

ADMINISTRATION

The only way to exploit the virtues of this plant is through the use of homeopathic remedies. In these drugs the plant is sufficiently diluted and at least, although its beneficial effects are a little shaken, no doubt they are completely free of side effects.
